June 2005 - Ground Breaking Event

Top ag officials attend plant groundbreaking (Reported by Associated Press)

One of the state's new ethanol plants - the $83 million Lincolnway Energy LLC plant in central Iowa - attrached some of the nation's top agriculture officials to a groundbreaking ceremony marking the beginning of construction.

U.S. Agriculture Secretary Mike Johanns, Sen.  Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa; and Rep. Tom Latham, R-Iowa, were among the city, county, state and other federal officials attending the groundbreaking ceremonies on Friday.

"Ethanol is a win-win for everyone," Johanns said. "It's good for the environment. It's good for the economy. It's good for the American farmer."

The Lincolnway Energy plant is scheduled to begin producing ethanol in 2006.
